Black Oak has been sending people all over the world and the U.S. this year. Aside from our team traveling to client sites, our Chief Science Officer Dr. John R. Talburt presented at the Governance and Information Quality (DGIQ) 2016 Conference in San Diego and the International Conference on Information Quality 2016 (ICIQ2016) in Ciudad Real, Spain.
This week Dr. Talburt is going to the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA, for two events. The first is the annual meeting of the International Society of Chief Data Officers (ISCDO). There he will present on the topic “The Business of the CDO is Business” as a member of the Keynote Panel along with Mark Krzysko, Deputy Director for Enterprise Information in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense, Dr. Yang Lee, Northeastern University, and Dr. Richard Wang, Director of the MIT CDOIQ Program. After that he will attend the MIT Chief Data Office and Information Quality (MITCDOIQ) Symposium, and on Thursday July 14, Dr. Talburt will be participating in a panel called “Institutionalizing Chief Data Officers” along with Natalie Harris, Senior Policy Advisor for the Data Driven Government at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, as well as Dr. Lawrence Whitman, Dean of UALR’s Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology.
The panelists will discuss the institutionalization of CDOs in the academic, government and industry sectors. Over the past 18 months, much work has already been done to establish CDO leadership roles, and the panelists will invite input from the conference attendees on building a roadmap to more fully define the role of CDOs.
Additionally, on September 30th the UALR Information Quality Program will be celebrating its Tenth Anniversary. Black Oak Analytics was incubated out of the IQ program in 2007, and Dr. Talburt will moderate the event. Black Oak CEO Rick McGraw and one of our board members Jerry Adams will both be speaking at the event, as a part of the “Building the Future” segment of the celebration. The Keynote address will be given by Dr. Mark Ramsey, Chief Data Officer of GlaxoSmithKline in Dallas, TX.
The celebration will take place the day after a special training being offered at UALR from September 26th to 29th by the newly created UALR Institute for Chief Data Officers. The training is “Course CDO-1: Foundations for Chief Data Officers”. Dr. Talburt (the Campus Director for the new institute) will also be an instructor for the course and will be leading a training module on entity resolution and data integration. Black Oak is providing participants with the free use of our Big Data software HiPER during the course to give attendees hands-on experience with data integration strategies for Big Data.
